REPORT Did Comey Help CNN ‘Spin’ the Trump-Russia Dossier

It’s clear from the newly released Comey Memos, that CNN had the Trump-Russia dossier and was looking for a good “news spin” in order to push it.

What is not clear, but some speculate, that disgraced former FBI Director James Comey may have been the one to help them develop that “spin,” which they’ve subsequently pushed and pushed for well over a year now.
When former FBI Director James Comey first informed President-elect Donald Trump about the infamous pee dossier on January 7, 2017, he told the president that CNN had it but was looking for a “news hook” — or compelling reason to report on it.

That conversation was conveniently the “news hook” that CNN was looking for.

Just three days after Comey’s conversation with Trump, CNN published their story: “Intel chiefs presented Trump with claims of Russian efforts to compromise him.” The lead reporter on the story was Evan Perez, friend of the founder of Fusion GPS, the firm that produced the dossier.

It is not clear if Comey knew his conversation would become the “news hook” CNN was looking for, but the exchange raises questions as to whether CNN had worked with Comey — or those who knew about Comey’s briefing — to get word of the dossier out.

According to Comey’s memo of the January 7, 2017, conversation, former Director of National Intelligence James Clapper had asked him to brief the president on the dossier.

Shortly after CNN published their story, BuzzFeed published the dossier in full — which has plagued the president since the beginning of his administration.

The numerous reports also led to Comey publicly confirming during a congressional hearing in March 2017 that there was an FBI investigation into the Trump campaign — even though he had repeatedly refused to publicly acknowledge that Trump was not under investigation despite telling the president so several times in private investigations.

The initial January 7 conversation between Comey and Trump which became the “news hook” was revealed in memos that the former FBI director had created to document that and other conversations he had with the president.

On Sunday, former Attorney General Loretta Lynch released a statement slamming former FBI Director James Comey just hours before a blockbuster interview of him with ABC News’ George Stephanopoulos is set to air.

In a 330-plus word statement, Lynch highlighted what she claims are her career accomplishments before turning her attention to Comey’s upcoming interview. Addressing the issue of the criminal investigation into former Secretary of State Hillary Clinton’s use of a private email server, Lynch wrote:

I have known James Comey almost 30 years. Throughout his time as Director we spoke regularly about some of the most sensitive issues in law enforcement and national security. If he had any concerns regarding the email investigation, classified or not, he had ample opportunities to raise them with me both privately and in meetings. He never did.

Lynch’s statement comes just hours before Comey’s interview with Stephanopoulos is set to air on ABC News. In the interview, Comey addresses his decision in October 2016 to announce that he was reopening the investigation into Clinton’s use of a private email server, just days before the election.
“I was operating in a world where Hillary Clinton was going to beat Donald Trump,” Comey says in the interview. “And so I’m sure that it was a factor. That she’s going to be elected President and if I hide this from the American people, she’ll be illegitimate the moment she’s elected, the moment this comes out.”

Over almost two decades as a federal prosecutor I have aggressively prosecuted drug dealers, violent gangs, mobsters, and money launderers, upheld the civil rights of all Americans, and fought corruption of all types — whether by elected officials from both sides of the aisle or within organizations like FIFA. Through it all I have never hesitated to make the hard decisions, guided by the Department of Justice’s core principles or integrity, independence and above all, always doing the right thing.

The Justice Department’s handling of the Clinton email investigation under my leadership was no exception. It was led by a team of non-partisan career prosecutors whose integrity cannot be overstated and whom I trusted to assess the facts and make a recommendation — one that I ultimately accepted because I thought the evidence and law warranted it.

Everyone who works for the Department of Justice has an obligation to protect the confidentiality and integrity of the work of the department. That is why, at the critical early stages of this case, I followed the departments long-standing policy of neither confirming nor denying the fact of an ongoing investigation. This policy both pre-dates my tenure in the Department and will live on long after the current debate is over. It neither misleads nor misinforms, but instead both protects investigations and guarantees equal treatment of those under scrutiny, whether well-known or unknown. Any suggestion that I invoked this bedrock policy for any other reason is simply false.

Throughout the process I did what I always do: rise above politics and uphold the law. At no time did I ever discuss any aspect of the investigation with anyone from the Clinton campaign or the DNC.

BREAKING News From Florida… THEY AMBUSHED AND KILLED THEM…RIP

Two sheriff’s deputies were shot and killed Thursday in a restaurant in Trenton, Fla., in what appeared to be an ambush, Fox News reports.

The Gilchrist County deputies died “after a suspect walked up” to the Ace China restaurant around 3 p.m. “and shot both deputies through the window,” the Alachua County Sheriff’s Office said in a statement made on behalf of the Gilchrist County Sheriff’s Office.

“As fellow deputies responded to the scene, they found the shooter deceased outside the business, and both Deputy Sheriffs where they died of their wounds.”

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE ON BEHALF SHERIFF BOBBY SCHULTZ AND THE GILCHRIST COUNTY SHERIFF’S OFFICE:

At approximately 3:00pm this afternoon, two Gilchrist County Deputy Sheriffs were shot and killed in the Ace China restaurant in downtown Trenton, after a suspect walked up to business and shot both deputies through the window. As fellow deputies responded to the scene, they found the shooter deceased outside the business, and both Deputy Sheriffs where they died of their wounds.

At this point, it remains an active criminal investigation with no apparent motive or indications as to why this tragedy occurred. Sheriff Bobby Schultz has been on scene throughout the afternoon with his deputies and their families, notifying additional loved ones, and will be speaking to the media at 7:00pm EDT.

A Media Staging Area has been established in front of Duke Energy (not related to the incident) at 1532 East Wade Street in Trenton, Florida. Requests for footage of the scene will be accommodated and updated briefing times provided as soon as they are available. Officials from the Levy County Sheriff’s Office, the Alachua County Sheriff’s Office, the Florida Department of Law Enforcement, and the State Attorney’s Office have all responded to the area to assist.
Florida Attorney General Pam Bondi issued a statement saying, “My heart breaks with the tragic news of two Gilchrist County deputies that were senselessly killed today while in the line of duty.”

The murdered officers have been identified.

“Sergeant Noel Ramirez. Deputy Sheriff Taylor Lindsey. Our heroes. Killed in the line of duty today, April 19th, at the Ace China in Trenton. We’ll continue to serve you. For them.”
Gov. Rick Scott in a statement said he and his wife “are heartbroken by the loss of the two law enforcement officers in Trenton.”

“It is a true evil for anyone to hurt a law enforcement officer, and in Florida, we have zero tolerance for violance, especially against police,” he continued. “Tonight, I ask every Floridian to honor these law enforcement officers, their brothers and sisters in uniform and their families. May God bless those who work to keep our communities safe.”

The Holmes County Sheriff’s Office added that two deputies “were shot and killed in a suspected ambush.”

“About an hour ago, two deputies with the Gilchrist County Sheriff’s Office were shot and killed in a suspected ambush. Please keep the families of these deputies, Sheriff Bobby Schultz, and the rest of their law enforcement family in your prayers.”
President Trump offered his condolences to “the families, friends and colleagues of the two @GCSOFlorida deputies (HEROES) who lost their lives in the line of duty today.”
