A federal appeals court blocks the Trump administration from enforcing its asylum order, while the policy remains under consideration by the courts.
Friday’s ruling was issued by the 9th Circuit, which has come under fire by President Trump in recent months for so-called Judicial Activism.
The decision upholds a lower court’s ruling from last month, which stopped authorities from withholding asylum from migrants who cross the border illegally.
The justice department has since slammed the ruling as ‘absurd’, arguing the asylum order is a ‘well reasoned exercise’ of the president’s authority.
