The trial of Derek Chauvin, the former Minneapolis police officer seen on video kneeling on George Floyd’s neck last May, is at the center of a national reckoning with race and policing. But this is nothing new. In recent decades, several high-profile cases with videos showing officer-involved deaths of Black men and women set off cycles of protests and consciousness. Ultimately, they have left families of the victims unsatisfied, and still searching for justice.
