In Palm Springs, California, a proposed AIDS memorial sculpture has stirred up quite the controversy. Designed by sculptor Phillip K. Smith III, the nine-foot limestone sculpture raised eyebrows due to its rather unconventional appearance. To some, it bore a striking resemblance to a certain part of human anatomy that we won’t mention here.

Smith, however, defended his creation, describing it as a donut-like structure with intriguing ridges and an eye-level opening that offers a unique perspective. He believed it symbolized hope and a broader view of the world.
