Ep. 2017 Adam Nimoy: ‘For the Love of Spock’

Tonight, Wednesday on FADE to BLACK: Adam Nimoy opens up about his life as the son of the iconic Vulcan, sharing the complexities of their relationship and how it shaped his perspectives on marriage, parenting, and eventually, sobriety. Despite their differences, both men found themselves on parallel journeys.

Adam Nimoy was born during the Eisenhower administration to Leonard and Sandra Zoberblatt Nimoy. He attended the University Elementary School, a “lab school” run by UCLA, where he was subjected to numerous psychological experiments. The experimentation continued at UC Berkeley in the form of mind-altering substances. In a state of absolute certainty, Adam attended Loyola Law School. He was wrong. After seven years of practicing entertainment law and one moment of clarity, Adam left his life as an attorney to follow his passion of making films. After directing forty-five hours of network television, Adam’s career plummeted due in large part to drug and alcohol addiction. On January 1, 2004, Adam entered 12-Step recovery hoping to achieve an attitude adjustment. This was a New Year’s resolution he knew he had to keep. For eight years, he taught writing, directing and acting at the New York Film Academy and taught filmmaking at Beit T’Shuvah, an addiction treatment center where the residents kept him on the straight and narrow.

I Went From Foster Care to Yale. This Is What I Learned About ‘Luxury Beliefs.’ | NYT Opinion

In a 2017 Senate hearing, the Harvard sociologist Robert Putnam famously argued, “Rich kids and poor kids now grow up in separate Americas.” Rob Henderson knows this firsthand. His mother was addicted to drugs; he never knew his father. He grew up shuttling among foster homes, where he started drinking beer around age 5 and smoking marijuana at age 9. At age 17 he watched a drunk friend kick a dog off a cliff and knew he had to escape. He enlisted in the Air Force.

When Henderson got to Yale on the G.I. Bill, he was shocked by the differences between him and his classmates. As he explains in the video above, he learned it was popular for his classmates to hold strong, seemingly progressive views about many of the concerns that shaped his life — drugs, marriage, crime. But they were largely insulated from the consequences of their views. Henderson found that these ideas came to serve as status symbols for the privileged while they, ironically, kept the working class down. He came to call these ideas luxury beliefs.

Henderson went on to get his Ph.D. at Cambridge and wrote a book about his experiences, “Troubled: A Memoir of Family, Foster Care, and Social Class.” In the video, Henderson argues that these out-of-touch views are all around us, widening our class divide and fueling our fractious politics. And he envisions another way.

They’ve Flipped Their Wigs and Lost Their Minds: Mindless Dems Are Collapsing Publically

White House Press Secretary Karine Jean-Pierre took a decisive tone with reporters following a contentious briefing on Monday. She defended President Biden’s leadership while responding to allegations about a lack of transparency regarding his health. Jean-Pierre firmly rejected claims that she hasn’t been forthcoming and stressed the importance of Biden’s team, including the National Security Council, in keeping him informed of critical issues.

A significant moment of contention arose when Fox News’ Peter Doocy asked about Biden’s capability to respond to emergencies after 8 PM, referencing Biden’s comments about scheduling fewer evening events for more rest. Jean-Pierre asserted that the president is always informed of essential matters and emphasized that First Lady Jill Biden does not make decisions for him.

Additionally, Jean-Pierre addressed questions about Hunter Biden’s presence at White House meetings, explaining that it was a family gathering for the Fourth of July and not a matter of official business. She also denied any coverup regarding President Biden’s health, highlighting a comprehensive medical report available on the White House website and explaining the role of Dr. Kevin Cannard, a neurologist who visits the White House for general neurological care, not specifically for treating the president.

Throughout the briefing, Jean-Pierre reiterated the administration’s commitment to transparency and addressed concerns from reporters about Biden’s cognitive abilities and the involvement of family members in White House activities.
