In a dramatic lead-up to the Republican National Convention in Milwaukee, former President Donald Trump narrowly survived an assassination attempt just two days before the event, setting a remarkable tone for the proceedings.

I said to myself, what was that? It can only be a bullet. My hand was covered with blood — just absolutely blood all over the place. … There was blood pouring everywhere, but for some reason, I felt very safe, because I had God on my side.” Despite losing focus and diverting to discuss the Green Bay Packers’ upcoming season, Trump’s raw emotion resonated with attendees.

The convention underscored a unified Republican Party, bolstered by the conversion of Trump’s past critics to his brand of politics or their departure from the party. Mitt Romney is retiring from the Senate, Liz Cheney lost her primary, and Jeff Flake is concluding his term as Biden’s ambassador to Turkey. 🔴 MSNBC’s Joy Reid Draws Backlash for Conspiracy Theories on Trump Assassination Attempt

MSNBC host Joy Reid took to X (formerly known as Twitter) to share her skepticism about the recent assassination attempt on former President Donald Trump, even suggesting that he might not have been shot at all. The liberal anchor, 55, listed several aspects of the incident in Butler, Pennsylvania, that she found “weird,” implying that it could have been a staged event.

Reid began her comments by stating, “We still don’t know for sure whether Donald Trump was hit by a bullet. We know almost nothing.” Although Reid floated questions that officials have already addressed, her remarks have added to the mounting pressure on the Secret Service to explain the security lapse that allowed the shooting to occur. Her conspiracy-laden speculations were shared on social media shortly after she raised eyebrows during a broadcast from the Republican National Convention, where she compared President Biden’s recovery from COVID-19 to Trump standing and pumping his fist seconds after the shooting, suggesting they “convey the exact same thing.”

Reid further implied that the assassination attempt was a “photo op,” speculating that Trump’s Secret Service agents paused to let him “pose” for an iconic picture. “We don’t know why, for nine full seconds, Donald Trump was allowed to stand back up during an active shooting,” Reid said, questioning the Secret Service’s actions and hinting at the possibility of multiple shooters. Conservative commentator Kenny Webster criticized Reid’s insinuations, comparing them to Alex Jones’ infamous Sandy Hook remarks and calling for similar consequences.

Reid also expressed doubt about the injury Trump sustained, questioning, “What is the actual injury to Donald Trump’s ear that’s under that bandage? Shouldn’t we know that by now?” Her comments come amid scrutiny of the Secret Service’s failure to prevent the shooting and the agency’s decision to stand Trump up shortly after the shots were fired. Secret Service Chief Kimberly Cheatle has faced calls to resign, offering a controversial explanation for why no agent was stationed on the roof from which the shooter, Thomas Matthew Crooks, fired.

Several top Democrats privately believe that rising pressure from party congressional leaders and close friends will persuade President Biden to drop out of the presidential race as soon as this weekend.
