A school bus driver in Florida saved the lives of 25 Challenger Middle School students after the vehicle’s engine caught fire on Friday, the Cape Coral Fire Department announced, Fox News reports.
The driver, who has not been identified, “heard a noise from the engine and then saw smoke coming from under the hood,” according to the fire department.
From the Cape Coral Fire Department Facebook page:
“This morning firefighters responded to a school bus fire on SE 8th St. The bus driver heard a noise from the engine and then saw smoke coming from under the hood.
She immediately stopped the bus and quickly, successfully, and safely evacuated all 25 students.
Thanks to her swift actions, there were no injuries. Engine 2 and Rescue 2 were able to quickly extinguish the fire, and another bus took the students onto school.
The fire was accidental due to a mechanical failure.”
