Chinese president signs trade deal with Italy despite U.S. pushback

Chinese President Xi Jinping is in Italy Saturday, where he has signed an accord to officially add Italy into its Belt and Road infrastructure plan.

Despite push-back from the U.S. Italian Prime Minister Giuseppe Conte, went through with a deal, which aims to strengthen Italy’s weak economy.

The Belt and Road project is a Chinese-led initiative to build trade and promote infrastructure around the world. However critics believe the project is meant to boost China’s political and military influence.
