Inanna abandoned heaven and earth to descend to the underworld.
No reason is given, no comprehensible purpose, but it seems that, as with all personal journeys, the time simply became right. She noticed what she had never noticed before.
Inanna’s descent requires everything from her — it requires what is, for most of us, one of the hardest things we can ever do: abandonment of all of the external signs of her status, until she remains simply who she is, naked and alone.
