Kirkuk,IRAQ – An Iraqi chieftain and one of his sons were killed in a dual bomb attack in Kirkuk governorate, a security source was quoted as saying, Iraqi News reports.

Speaking to Shafaq News, the source said, “Two explosive charges placed on the side of a road in al-Maslakha village, south of Hawija, went off, leaving a chieftain and his son killed and three others injured.”
“Ambulances carried the bodies to the forensic medicine department, while the injured were moved to a nearby hospital for treatment,” according to the source.

Meanwhile, two people were killed and injured as an explosive, from the remnants of war against Islamic State, went off, west of Mosul, a security source was quoted saying on Sunday.

Speaking to Alghad Press, the source said, “a bomb, from the remnants of Islamic State war, exploded while an ambulance was passing in Badush, west of Mosul.”

“A medic was killed, while the ambulance driver was seriously wounded,” the source said, adding that “lots of explosives were still there in the region.”

Kirkuk officials previously employed reinforcing military troops in the south and west of the province, as the region still has Islamic State members who escaped during liberation of Hawija to remote areas.

Violence in the country has surged further with the emergence of Islamic State extremist militants who proclaimed an “Islamic Caliphate” in Iraq and Syria in 2014.

The surge in violence between armed groups and government forces has resulted in over five million internally displaced persons across Iraq and left more than 11 million in need of humanitarian assistance, according to the UN Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs.

Iraq declared the collapse of Islamic State’s territorial influence earlier in November with the recapture of Rawa, a city on Anbar’s western borders with Syria, which was the group’s last bastion in Iraq.

GOD BLESS.
