In August 2017, the Archive released an episode of the Unexplained Structures series covering the location of Teotihuacan. The general structure of each episode of this series is to present the mainstream consensus followed by alternative explanations that challenge the mainstream paradigm. The Teotihuacan episode did not clearly delineate these sections and as a result many viewers did not make it past the first part. This supplemental is presented to those viewers who may missed the alternative explanations.

Ancient ruins around the world have withstood the test of time and remain standing for academics and laymen alike to ponder and study. Many of the methods used to create these ancient cities, temples, and monuments remain rather mysterious and unexplained. The Archive’s Unexplained Structures Series endeavors to acquaint the viewer with these locations and present some of the potential alternative explanations for their existence.
Teotihuacan, located in the Basin of Central Mexico, was the largest, most influential, and certainly most revered city in the history of the New World, and it flourished in Mesoamerica’s Golden Age, the Classic Period of the first millennium CE. Dominated by two gigantic pyramids and a huge sacred avenue, the city, its architecture, art, and religion would influence all subsequent Mesoamerican cultures, and it remains today the most visited ancient site in Mexico.
