Indian American county commissioner candidate and 30-year-old policy expert Taral Patel was detained by Texas Rangers on Wednesday for online impersonation and identity misrepresentation. The Fort Bend County District Attorney’s Public Integrity Division, in collaboration with the Texas Rangers, is probing the complaints against Patel, a Precinct 3 commissioner candidate. According to the Texas Election Code, Patel faces charges of third-degree online impersonation and Class A identity misrepresentation. He is being held on a $20,000 bond for the felony charge and a $2,500 bond for the misdemeanor; if the bond is not posted, he must appear before a magistrate. The Fort Bend County Sheriff’s Office confirmed the arrest and indicated that more information would be provided as it becomes available. Patel, a Democrat, has significant political experience at both local and national levels and currently serves as a White House liaison under President Joe Biden. Previously, he worked as a strategist for KP George during the 2018 mid-term elections and served as the chief of staff in the Fort Bend County judge’s office, where KP George, a high-profile Indian American, was elected as judge.
