After Arizona Senator John McCain bashed Gina Haspel, calling her “disqualified” to be CIA Chief for torturing terrorists, Lt. General Thomas McInerney humiliated him badly. Some people are saying that he took things too far.
On March 13, 2018, President Donald Trump announced to the world that Mike Pompeo would become his new Secretary of State and that Gina Haspel would become the first woman CIA Director in American history. Trump announcement on Twitter sent a shockwave throughout the political world.
“Mike Pompeo, Director of the CIA, will become our new Secretary of State. He will do a fantastic job! Thank you to Rex Tillerson for his service! Gina Haspel will become the new Director of the CIA, and the first woman so chosen. Congratulations to all!” Trump wrote.
In the weeks following Trump’s announcement, Haspel quickly became the target of attacks by not only the left but also from RINOs like Senator John McCain (R-AZ). Despite the backlash the administration received over Haspel’s nomination, Trump continued to voice his absolute support for his new CIA pick.
“Gina Haspel, my highly respected nominee to lead the CIA, is being praised for the fact that she has been, and always will be, TOUGH ON TERROR! This is a woman who has been a leader wherever she has gone. The CIA wants her to lead them into America’s bright and glorious future!” Trump tweeted out on Tuesday, May 8, 2018, as Haspel began to run the gauntlet of Congressional confirmation hearings.
In stark contrast to Trump’s praise of Haspel, McCain joined Senate Democrats in slandering Haspel for her years of dedicated service to the United States. McCain’s biggest problem with Haspel involves her years of overseeing the torture of radical Islamic terrorists, many of whom had murdered innocent people in cold blood.
McCain voiced his disapproval of Haspel on Twitter. “I believe Gina Haspel is a patriot who loves our country & has devoted her professional life to its service & defense. However, her role in overseeing the use of torture is disturbing & her refusal to acknowledge torture’s immorality is disqualifying,” McCain Wrote.
In my opinion, McCain can’t attempt a dose of praise for Haspel as a “patriot” and then turn around and judge her as “disqualified” to lead the CIA. The fact of the matter is that during the time that Haspel was running certain operations which involved waterboarding terrorists, it was legal. Haspel was doing her job and quite effectively. Leave it to saps like McCain to cry for the terrorists who deserve the worst punishments imaginable.
Following McCain’s attack on Haspel, Lt., General Thomas McInerney joined Charles Payne today on FOX Business Network to discuss the confirmation hearing of Gina Haspel. McInerney didn’t pull any punches when talking about why McCain thinks Haspel is not qualified.
“Well, she can’t use it anymore because the fact is that we determined, Congress, that it’s not legal. The fact is, John McCain, it worked on John. That’s why they call him ‘Songbird John.‘ The fact is, those methods can work and are effective as former Vice President Cheney said and if we have to use them to save a million American lives, we will do whatever we have to.
Following McInerney’s harsh rebuke of John McCain, Charles Payne issued a formal apology. It’s reported that McInerney will no longer be invited back as a guest on Fox News.
“This morning on a show that I was hosting, Lt. General Thomas McInerney made a false and derogatory statement about Senator John McCain’s actions when he was a prisoner of war. Regrettably, I did not hear the comments at the time. I was receiving instructions in my ear at that moment from producers. If I’d heard what he said the right way, I would have pushed back… ” Payne said.
