Grassley Gives DOJ FINAL NOTICE to Hand Over Unredacted Evidence

Senate Judiciary Chairman Chuck Grassley just issued the final notice to DOJ.

Grassley has been asking for the unredacted copies of text messages between the two anti-Trump FBI agents.
If the DOJ refuses to turn over the documents, Grassley is now requesting a log citing LEGAL reasons they are withholding the evidence.
Senate Judiciary Chairman Chuck Grassley called Wednesday for the Department of Justice (DOJ) to release unredacted copies of the texts between two former FBI employees who were highly critical of President Donald Trump.

“Please provide unredacted copies of all text messages produced to the Committee no later than June, 6, 2018,” Grassley, a Republican from Iowa, wrote in a letter to Deputy Attorney General Rod Rosenstein. “Should the Department continue to refuse to provide fully unreacted copies to Congress, please provide a privilege log describing the legal basis for withholding that information from Congress.”

The chairman claims one redaction covered the costs of former FBI Deputy Director Andrew McCabe’s $70,000 conference table. He also points to one text exchange wherein an official’s name is redacted in reference to the “Obama White House ‘running’ an investigation,” making it unclear what investigation the FBI employees were referencing.

The DOJ released 49 pages, or around 300 text messages, between FBI special agent Peter Strzok and FBI counsel Lisa Page, who were in an ongoing, intimate relationship. The DOJ was able to recover the text messages, which were exchanged between Dec. 16, 2017 and May 23, 2017, after they were believed to be missing from a technological failure on the part of FBI-issued cell phones.

The Daily Caller News Foundation exclusively obtained the texts, illustrating just how many are redacted and how difficult it is to ascertain meaning from them. Grassley’s committee is attempting to wade through the unredacted copies in order to glean insight into what Strzok and Page were discussing and any motives behind the message.

Republican lawmakers are concerned with texts that show Strzok texted Page to tell her that senior FBI officials “water(ed) down the reference to President [Barack] Obama,” using “senior government official” instead. At the time the statement was made public, the lawmakers argue, references to Obama and to a “senior government official” were washed from the record.

On Wednesday, President Trump vowed to clean everything up within the troubled Department of Justice, calling what’s happened in the past, and the coverup now, a “terrible situation.”
President Trump on Wednesday lauded the Justice Department’s decision to launch an internal investigation into surveillance of his 2016 campaign, claiming his administration is “cleaning everything up” at the agency.

“We’re cleaning everything up. This was a terrible situation. What we’re doing is we’re cleaning everything up. It’s so important,” Trump told reporters at the White House.
“What I am doing is a service to this country,” he said, adding that he performed another “great service” when he fired former FBI Director James Comey last May.

Trump demanded over the weekend that Deputy Attorney General Rod Rosenstein allow the Justice Department’s inspector general to look into whether there were any irregularities in surveillance tactics that were used on Trump associates during the 2016 election.

The request came after news broke that an FBI informant met with at least three Trump campaign aides on multiple occasions, a revelation Trump has since compared to “politically motivated” spying.

Several Republican lawmakers have criticized Justice Department officials over the agency’s handling of the Russia probe and the Hillary Clinton email investigation, with some suggesting the agency is too tarnished at this point to investigate itself.
Trump cast his request for the internal investigation as something that could help improve the Justice Department’s reputation, dismissing concerns that the move is “undercutting” the agency.

President Trump blasted the “Criminal Deep State” early Wednesday, suggesting things have “turned around” in “SPYGATE,” following revelations of a reported FBI informant snooping on the Trump campaign, Fox News reports.

The Presidents comments come after reports that an FBI informant communicated with at least three members of his campaign—Foreign policy adviser George Papadopoulos, Trump aide Carter Page and campaign adviser Sam Clovis.
During a Tuesday appearance on ‘The View’, no less than the former Director of National Intelligence (DNI) James Clapper described what was done by the Obama administration to Donald’s Trump campaign as “spying.”

“With the informant business, well, the point here is the Russians. Not spying on the campaign but what are the Russians doing? And in a sense, unfortunately, what they were trying to do is protect our political system and protect the campaign.”

What’s more, Blake and Clapper attempting to spin idea that the Obama administration was spying on the Trump campaign for “friendly” purposes is beyond laughable, and we know this was not the case for the reasons Hume points out: the Trump campaign was never informed of this counter-intelligence operation for the simple reason that this counter-intelligence operation had been launched against Trump and his campaign, Breitbart reported.
