President Donald Trump supporter Roseanne Barr triggered liberals in a major way. The reboot of her hit show “Roseanne,” where her character plays a supporter of the president, has triggered them before, but what she said about a former Barack Obama adviser sent them over the edge.
Roseanne Barr was commenting on a tweet that stated Wikileaks founder Julian Assange said that the Obama administration had spied on not only President Trump but French presidential candidates too.
One of the commenters wrote a response that caught Barr’s attention. “Jarrett helped hide a lot,” referencing former advisor to President Obama, Valerie Jarret.
Barr got right on that with a now-deleted tweet that some called racist. “muslim brotherhood & planet of the apes had a baby=vj,” she wrote.
When another person called her tweet out as “racist,” Barr struck back. “Muslims r NOT a race,” she wrote.
“ISLAM is not a RACE, lefties. Islam includes EVERY RACE of people,” she wrote in another tweet. And it was not the first time this week that she triggered the left on Twitter.
The first time she triggered them was when she, incorrectly, stated that former first daughter Chelsea Clinton was married to a nephew of billionaire progressive George Soros. “Chelsea Soros Clinton,” she wrote in the first tweet followed by another that read “she’s married to soros nephew,” in a tweet she deleted. She added, “soros’ goal; the overthrow of us constitutional republic by buying/backing candidates 4 local district attorney races who will ignore US law & favor ‘feelings’ instead-and call everyone who is alarmed by that ‘racist’.”
“as soon as americans unite against disinfo mkultra classist narrative, the better we will all b,” she said in another tweet, referencing the old CIA mind control operation from the 1970s.
Chelsea Clinton quickly fired back and defended herself and Soros. “Good morning Roseanne – my given middle name is Victoria. I imagine George Soros’s nephews are lovely people. I’m just not married to one. I am grateful for the important work @OpenSociety does in the world. Have a great day!” she wrote.
“I’m sorry-Chelsea Clinton IS NOT married to a nephew of George Soros-i apologize for the mistake!! #Sorry,” Barr wrote in one tweet explaining that she had made a mistake. “CORRECTION: CHELSEA CLINTON IS NOT MARRIED TO A SOROS NEPHEW. HER HUSBAND IS THE SON OF A CORRUPT SENATOR, SO SORRY!” she said in another, with a link to a Snopes story debunking the rumor.
But it was Barr’s comment about Jarret that drew the most attention. Progressives came out of the woodwork to attack the sitcom star, who is one of their favorite new enemies. Many of them called out the ABC Network in an attempt to get Roseanne’s show canceled.
“Hi @ABCNetwork, if you’re going to continue to air @RoseanneOnABC, maybe you should tell @therealroseanne to quit calling Black people monkeys. Just a free idea from me to you,” legal analyst Imani Gandy wrote.
“if i may: perhaps a more important story with Roseanne isn’t what she’s saying, because this is what she’s done for awhile….it’s about ABC’s silence on this,” New York Times writer Sopan Deb wrote.
“Here’s a vile, unstable celebrity that Trump has personally championed, @therealroseanne, calling Valerie Jarett—a black former senior adviser to America’s first black president—the offspring of monkeys. Are you okay with this @ABC? Are the advertisers for her show?” Washington Post reporter Brian Klaas wrote.
The attacks got the best of Barr who apologized and said she would quit Twitter. “I apologize. I am now leaving Twitter,” she wrote. “I apologize to Valerie Jarrett and to all Americans. I am truly sorry for making a bad joke about her politics and her looks. I should have known better. Forgive me-my joke was in bad taste,” she said.
It is a shame that the speech sensors on Twitter got to Roseanne Barr. Her comment was in poor taste, but it was not directed at Jarrett’s race. Any implication that it was is just an example of the speech police attempting to use what she said to silence her. The question is how long will it be successful?
