Bill Haley & His Comets give a nightclub scene a jolt of energy in Pawel Pawlikowski’s drama “Cold War,” nominated for three Academy Awards at Sunday’s ceremony. The film covers a period from the late 1940s to the 1960s, beginning in Poland and crossing European borders. It covers the turbulent but passionate relationship between a music director, Wiktor (Tomasz Kot), and a singer, Zula (Joanna Kulig). Here, Pawlikowski discusses a sequence in a Paris nightclub, where “Rock Around the Clock” creates a thrilling soundtrack for a couple in emotional limbo.

This is JS’s statement from his big shot lawyer. “Mr. Smollet [sic] is a young man of impeccable character and integrity who fiercely and solemnly maintains his innocence and feels betrayed by a system that apparently wants to skip due process and proceed directly to sentencing,” reads the statement sent out late Thursday on behalf of the Empire actor by fabled celebrity hot shot lawyer Mark Geragos. Swear to Gawd.
“Today we witnessed an organized law enforcement spectacle that has no place in the American legal system,” the hyperbolic statement added. “The presumption of innocence, a bedrock in the search for justice, was trampled upon at the expense of Mr. Smollett [sic] and notably, on the eve of a Mayoral election,” it also noted, tossing more political edge into an already sharply political affair.
The statement did not come from Smollett’s regular reps at Sharp & Associates nor his crisis PR team at Sunshine Sachs (which might have explained the misspelling), but rather Mark Geragos, known as Colin Kaepernick’s attorney (See?), “sometime shameless self-promoter and current CNN contributor,” as Deadline hysterically notes. https://deadline.com/2019/02/jussie-smollett-response-innocent-laywers-statement-arrest-chicago-attack-1202562385/
