Senile Joe’s History and Will Be Out By the Weekend

President Joe Biden has reportedly become increasingly open to the idea of withdrawing from the 2024 presidential race, with multiple high-profile Democrats suggesting he could make a decision as soon as this weekend, according to various news outlets on Thursday. Sources close to the president told The New York Times that Biden is starting to acknowledge his diminishing chances of winning re-election and is considering stepping down. Former House Speaker Nancy Pelosi has been privately discussing with House Democrats that Biden might be persuaded to exit the race soon, The Washington Post reported. Despite his public insistence that he is not dropping out, some top Democrats told Axios that Biden understands that party leaders, friends, and donors believe he will lose in November and that they cannot change public opinion regarding his age and ability to govern.

Reports indicate that while no high-level Democrats have publicly stated that Biden is preparing to drop out, he has been “more receptive” to arguments about ending his re-election bid and has shown a willingness to consider unflattering polling data. According to CNN, Biden has inquired about Vice President Kamala Harris’ chances against Trump, reflecting a shift from skepticism to consideration of her potential candidacy. However, a person close to Biden emphasized that there is no definitive indication that he is planning to change course. Biden has faced direct pressure from top congressional Democrats, including Pelosi and Senate Majority Leader Chuck Schumer, who have conveyed concerns about his ability to defeat Trump and the potential negative impact on Democrats’ chances of retaking the House. Additionally, former President Barack Obama has privately expressed doubts about Biden’s viability, despite his public support. An anonymous source within Biden’s campaign suggested that the team is now coming to terms with the likelihood of Biden stepping aside, as reported by NBC News.

How ‘Twisters’ Destroys a Motel | Anatomy of a Scene

A grungy, empty pool becomes a motel’s greatest asset in this harrowing sequence from “Twisters.”

The storm chasers Kate (Daisy Edgar-Jones) and Tyler (Glen Powell) find themselves in a predicament when a tornado descends on a motel and the two must lead a group to safety. They head to the drained pool to stay out of the tornado’s path, along the way dodging debris that includes a soda machine and a trailer.

Much of the sequence gives the impression of a one-take shot, although it was stitched from different takes to best incorporate its visual effects. Those effects are a mix of the practical — one stunt performer was whisked 60 feet in the air — and the digital.

“I really wanted to film a night tornado,” Chung said, narrating the scene, “because growing up around Tornado Alley, the night tornadoes were always the most frightening.”

He said the intent of the scene and shooting it in this frantic, hand-held manner was to create “that subjective feeling of what it’s like to experience a tornado in real time.”

Chung said that while filming his cast inside the swimming pool, crew members were destroying the set outside, so as the scene ends and the characters emerge, they are seeing a damaged version of the set they hadn’t seen going in.

Former President Donald Trump is now leading President Biden by five points nationally, expanding his lead after his near-assassination on Saturday.

The CBS poll, published Thursday, shows Trump up 52%-47% nationally among likely voters. The same survey had him up by two points on July 3 (50%-48%).

A Republican president has not won the popular vote in two decades. It’s been three decades since one won by over 5%.

Trump also has a notable lead in key battleground states, where he bests Biden 51%-48%.

The former president upped his lead by one point across the swing states — Arizona, Georgia, Michigan, North Carolina, Nevada, Pennsylvania, and Wisconsin — since the last time CBS conducted a battleground survey one week ago.

The survey indicated that the shooting could directly change their likelihood of voting for Trump in November.

The poll showed 26% of registered voters said they were more willing to vote for Trump after he was shot on Saturday by a gunman at his Butler, Pa., rally. The majority of voters said the assassination attempt did not change their mind (67%), while 7% said it made them less likely to consider him.

Trump’s reaction to the shooting also directly impacted how voters view him. He rose up and pumped his fist in the air after being tackled by Secret Service agents at the rally and has since encouraged “unity” for the country. A majority of respondents, 54%, said Trump has since encouraged “more unity,” while 46% said he encouraged “more division.”

A large number of voters, 75%, said the Secret Service could have “done more” to protect the former president from 20-year-old Thomas Crooks who shot into the crowd from an unguarded nearby roof.

Trump (51%) also fared better than Vice President Kamala Harris (48%) in a head-to-head matchup among likely voters. Biden has been facing pressure from a growing number of Congressional Democrats and top allies to suspend his 2024 run after he stumbled heavily in his debate against Trump on June 27.

A majority of respondents, 56%, said Biden should step aside. Forty-four percent said he should continue running.

Trump was the top candidate for voters when they chose who would “fight a lot for people like you,” coming in at 37%, ahead of Biden (28%), Harris (26%), and GOP VP nominee Sen. JD Vance (R-Ohio) (26%).

Vance, who was picked as Trump’s VP on Monday, had 51% of Republican registered voters saying they were enthusiastic about the choice. Forty-three percent said they were “satisfied” and 6% said they were dissatisfied or angry.

Going forward, 63% of registered voters surveyed said they predicted political violence will get worse, while 28% said it would stay the same and 9% said it would decrease.

The survey was conducted July 16-18, had a sample size of 2,247 voters and had a margin of error of 2.7%.
