đź”´ President Joe Biden Drops Out of 2024 Presidential Race

President Joe Biden announced on Sunday that he will not seek reelection in 2024, following weeks of mounting pressure and a disastrous debate performance that sparked a public revolt within the Democratic Party.

In a statement posted on X, Biden acknowledged that at 81 years old, he no longer represents the Democratic Party’s best chance to defeat former President Donald Trump. “While it has been my intention to seek reelection, I believe it is in the best interest of my party and the country for me to stand down and focus solely on my duties as president for the remainder of my term,” he wrote.

Biden also endorsed Vice President Kamala Harris as his successor. “My very first decision as the party nominee in 2020 was to pick Kamala Harris as my Vice President. And it’s been the best decision I’ve made. Today I want to offer my full support and endorsement for Kamala to be the nominee of our party this year. Democrats — it’s time to come together and beat Trump. Let’s do this,” Biden said on X.

Harris is now positioned as the frontrunner for the Democratic nomination, with access to Biden’s campaign resources. However, if the party does not rally around her during the upcoming virtual roll call of delegates, the Democratic National Convention in August could become contentious, with various ambitious members vying for the nomination.

Biden’s decision to step down follows intense scrutiny of his age and mental acuity, exacerbated by a poor performance in a June debate where he appeared confused and struggled to articulate his points. This performance intensified doubts among Democrats about his ability to campaign effectively against Trump.
