Joe Biden delivered an emotional address at the Democratic National Convention last night, marking one of his final major speeches as president. The 81-year-old president, speaking in Chicago, reflected on his term and praised the progress made during his presidency, stating that “democracy has prevailed” and that America had experienced “one of the most extraordinary four years of progress ever.”

Taking the stage at the United Center, Biden was visibly emotional from the start, wiping away tears as his daughter Ashley introduced him to a crowd chanting “we love Joe.” His eyes welled up during parts of his speech as he acknowledged the significance of the moment, being the oldest president in U.S. history.

Biden candidly admitted to making “a lot of mistakes” throughout his career but emphasized that he always gave his best to the nation. “For 50 years, like many of you, I gave my heart and soul to the nation,” he said. Despite speculation and pressure from some Democrats to step aside, Biden assured the audience that he was not angry about his decision to withdraw from the 2024 race. Instead, he stated that he was acting in the best interest of the country, calling his service as Commander-in-Chief “the honor of my lifetime.” He also promised to be the “best volunteer” for Kamala Harris and her running mate, Tim Walz, in their campaign.

First Lady Jill Biden also delivered a poignant speech before her husband’s farewell, describing how she watched him “dig deep into his soul” as he made the difficult decision to step down. She urged Americans to unite with “faith in each other, hope for a brighter future, and love for our country.”

Biden ended his speech surrounded by his family, including Vice President Kamala Harris, Democratic nominee for president, and his son Hunter. Ashley Biden, in her introduction, called her father “the O.G. girl dad,” highlighting how he valued and respected women throughout his life.

In his swan song, Biden praised Harris, calling her selection as vice president the “best decision” of his long career. He emphasized that he was not resentful about stepping aside, contrary to some reports, and reiterated his commitment to serving the country until his final day in office.

Biden concluded his speech by expressing his love for the job but his greater love for the country. “Because of you, we’ve had one of the most extraordinary four years of progress ever,” he said, crediting the achievements to both himself and Harris. Reflecting on his decision to drop out of the 2024 race, he remarked, “I was too young to be in the Senate because I wasn’t 30 yet and too old to stay as president.”

While speaking at a campaign stop in Pennsylvania on Sunday, Vice President Kamala Harris stumbled over her words while explaining what the 2024 presidential election was “about” and what the United States stood “for around the globe.”

“Our election is about understanding the importance of this beautiful country of ours in terms of what we stand for around the globe as a democracy,” Harris told the crowd. “As a democracy, we knew, there was a duality to the nature of democracy.”

Writer Greg Price posted a video of Harris’s speech on X, commenting, “Kamala word salads are so back.”

“On the one hand, incredible strength when it is intact,” Harris added. “What it does for its people to protect and defend their rights, their liberty, their freedom. Incredibly strong, and incredibly fragile.”

As Breitbart News reported, Harris had made “word salads” in her speeches before, where she mentioned “odd phrases and explanations for simple ideas.”

In March 2022, during a speech in Louisiana, Harris marveled at the “significance of the passage of time.”

During a trip to Poland, Harris stumbled over her words and stated she was standing in “the northern flank.”

“I am here, standing here on the northern flank, on the eastern flank, talking about what we had in terms of the eastern flank and our NATO allies, and what was at stake at this very moment,” Harris said at the time. “What was at stake at that very moment were some of the guiding principles around the NATO alliance.”

Harris recently delivered another word salad when she spoke unscripted about a prisoner swap with Russia.

“This was just an extraordinary testament to the importance of having a president who understood the power of diplomacy and understood the strength that rested in understanding the significance of diplomacy,” Harris said.
