On Monday, “The View” co-host Sunny Hostin made an outrageous comparison, equating the events of January 6, 2021, to some of the darkest chapters in human history, including World War II and the Holocaust. This remark was made during a discussion marking the four-year anniversary of the U.S. Capitol riot, just as Congress had certified President-elect Donald Trump’s election victory. Hostin argued for moral clarity, stating, “I think we need to find moral clarity in this country,” and placed the blame for the riot squarely on Donald Trump’s shoulders as Mitch McConnell had done post-event. She opposed the notion of moving on from January 6th, labeling it as an “atrocity” and one of America’s “worst moments,” alongside historical tragedies like chattel slavery.

This comparison has been met with significant backlash, with conservative strategist Scott Jennings on CNN describing Hostin’s statements as “extraordinarily unhinged and vile.” He criticized the hyperbolic rhetoric, urging for a more measured response to such events. “We need to arrange our feelings and control ourselves accordingly here and not go off the deep end,” Jennings remarked, highlighting the need for perspective.

Moreover, Hostin’s credibility was further questioned when she inaccurately described Vice President Kamala Harris as having “always been moderate.” This claim contradicts Harris’s well-documented record as one of the “most liberal” senators, according to analyses by nonpartisan groups. Hostin’s assertion that Harris’s role as a former prosecutor inherently makes her moderate or anti-crime overlooks the complexity of political stances and the nuances of prosecutorial roles. Such statements from Hostin reflect a pattern of sensationalism and a lack of factual grounding, casting doubt on her reliability as a commentator on political and historical matters.
