Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) officers launched a series of high-profile operations this week, arresting multiple violent offenders in sanctuary cities, including a Haitian alleged gang member with an extensive criminal history who declared, “I’m not going back to Haiti” and shouted, “F–k Trump, Biden forever!”

In Boston, ICE officers made eight significant arrests, including several MS-13 gang members, suspects wanted for murder and rape, and the Haitian gang member, who reportedly has at least 17 prior convictions. Fox News, which accompanied ICE during the operations, reported that one of the arrests involved a “collateral” detainee—an individual not initially targeted but taken into custody. This collateral arrest in Boston involved an MS-13 member who had been released earlier in the week by the sanctuary city.

During one arrest in Boston, a bystander reportedly shouted “thank you!” to the ICE agents, Fox News reported. Some arrests were tied to international Red Notices, fulfilling requests from other law enforcement agencies to locate and detain suspects.

Tom Homan, a former acting ICE director, emphasized that collateral arrests will become increasingly common, particularly in sanctuary cities. “When we find the bad guy, there’s probably others. Others that are in the United States illegally. They may not be a criminal priority, but we’re not walking away from them,” he stated.

These operations mark the beginning of the Trump administration’s renewed focus on mass deportations, a dramatic departure from the Biden administration’s border policies, which allowed approximately 8 million undocumented immigrants into the U.S. In Trump’s first full day back in office, ICE reported detaining more than 300 illegal migrants with criminal records in cities including Boston, Denver, Philadelphia, Atlanta, Seattle, Washington, D.C., and Miami.

The increased enforcement efforts have sparked concerns in some communities. NBC Boston cameras captured federal agents entering homes in East Boston earlier this week, taking individuals into custody. Locally, fears of additional ICE raids have grown as reports of heightened activity emerge.
