President Biden faced criticism for an abrupt departure from the East Room of the White House during a Medal of Honor ceremony honoring Vietnam War veteran retired Army Capt. Larry Taylor, 81, on Tuesday. Biden, aged 80, left the ceremony immediately after presenting the nation’s highest military decoration to Capt. Taylor, without staying for the closing benediction led by Chaplain Brig. Gen. William Green Jr.
Military veterans and critics accused the president of displaying a lack of respect for the ceremony. Representative Wesley Hunt (R-Texas), an Army veteran, also weighed in, making a reference to a previous incident when Biden appeared to check his watch during a solemn ceremony for the 13 U.S. troops killed in a terror attack near the Kabul airport in August 2021.
