Nearly three months after the mass shooting at Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School in Parkland, Florida, a controversial connection between 19-year-old gunman Nikolas Cruz and former President Barack Obama was revealed. With the public still reeling from this incredibly disconcerting news, the father of one Parkland victim has subsequently dropped yet another bombshell.

In the wake of the Valentine’s Day shooting at Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School in Parkland, Florida, the Broward County School District spent weeks denying that 19-year-old gunman Nikolas Cruz had been involved with the controversial Obama-era initiative dubbed the PROMISE Program. Then, on Sunday evening, a local news outlet released a bombshell report revealing that Cruz had, in fact, been assigned to the questionable disciplinary program, despite the repeated claims of the Broward County Public Schools superintendent that the gunman had “no connection” to it.

Broward school district officials admitted Sunday that the confessed Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School gunman was assigned to a controversial disciplinary program, after the superintendent repeatedly claimed Nikolas Cruz had “no connection” to the alternative punishment designed to limit on-campus arrests.

Two sources with knowledge of Cruz’s discipline records told WLRN he was referred to the so-called PROMISE Program for a three-day stint after committing vandalism at Westglades Middle School in 2013. [Source: WLRN]

Superintendent Robert W. Runcie implemented the PROMISE Program in Broward County Public Schools in 2013 at the direction of the Obama administration’s efforts to reduce the number of minority students who ended up in prison for crimes that they committed. Famed conservative commentator Ben Shapiro analyzed a report surrounding the PROMISE Program and wrote that Broward County Public Schools “had rewritten its disciplinary policies to make it nearly impossible to suspend, expel, or arrest students for behavioral problems including criminal activity.”
The sad irony in this situation is that the left responded to the mass shooting at MSD with calls for stricter gun control laws, but the left also put a program in place which ultimately rendered the existing gun laws in Florida ineffective. Nikolas Cruz was able to stock up on the all the guns and ammunition his evil heart desired because he was never arrested for crimes he committed as a teenager, thanks to Barack Obama. For this reason, you won’t see this story reported by the mainstream media.

Former President Barack Obama notoriously fought to reduce the number of minority individuals behind bars, arguing that there is a disproportionate amount of blacks and Hispanics in prison. Obama’s efforts extended as far as the grade school level, where he sought to ensure that an equal number of minority students and white students were suspended.

Through initiatives like the PROMISE Program, problem kids like Nikolas Cruz were able to get off easy for their crimes. Although Cruz committed many offenses for which he should have been arrested, he was involved with the PROMISE Program, and therefore, not punished to the full extent of the law. Years later, without a criminal record, he was legally able to buy guns.
Ironically, Obama worked his entire presidency to institute gun control, all the while implementing programs that would render gun control measures totally ineffective.

Naturally, the parents of Parkland victims are livid after having learned the truth about Cruz and his involvement in Obama’s PROMISE Program, according to Twitchy. Ryan Petty, whose daughter Alaina was murdered in the shooting, called the news “stunning,” noting that the “perverse incentives” which allowed the Cruz to get away with his crimes for so long were still in place.
The “perverse incentives” Petty was referring to were monetary. When Superintendent Runcie was hired in 2012, Broward County’s arrests were the highest in the state. Those arrests dropped by 66 percent in just one year, which would not have been possible had he not agreed to support Obama’s PROMISE Program. Runcie’s county has since received grant money from the U.S. Department of Education totaling $53,808,909.
