American Couple Retires To Mexico, How They Were Greeted Is Turning Stomachs

An American couple, eager to enjoy their golden years, moved to the Mexican town of Bahia de los Angeles. They hoped to live out the rest of their days in peace and relaxation. Instead, they were greeted with something out of a horror movie.
Jo Anne Butler, 69, and Ray Ball, 72 decided to leave their hometown of Prescott, Arizona for Mexico. They were ready to retire after many years of hard work and dedication. Their hope was to enjoy their lives together in a relaxing atmosphere.
Why they picked Mexico, we’ll never know. There are more than a few places a couple can retire in the United States. Places that are affordable, safe, and just as relaxing. Perhaps the cost of living in this Mexican town was too low to ignore. It’s true the American dollar can go a long way South of the border. As a retired couple, perhaps they wanted their savings to stretch far.
However, they might have considered other options. Late one night they awoke to the sounds of noise in their home. Robbers had broken into their house. They demanded the couple hand over their 22-foot-long fishing boat. When they refused, things got ugly.
A retired American couple was found fatally shot inside their Mexico home after a botched robbery Saturday, authorities said.
Jo Anne Butler, 69, and Ray Ball, 72, of Prescott, Ariz., were killed in their Bahia de los Angeles home, about 380 miles south of the U.S. border on the Gulf of California, the San Diego Union-Tribune reported.
“It was an attempted robbery, and an individual went to defend his property, and that’s when they shot him,” Octavio Lopez, a top local government official, told the Union-Tribune. “This is the first time we’ve had something like this happen.”

Another neighbor, identified by the newspaper as former off-road racing champion Roger Mears, discovered the pair’s bodies. Authorities said Ball had 18 gunshot wounds and Butler had two in her legs. [Source: Fox News]
Eighteen gunshot wounds? Was that even necessary? These criminals were not just run-of-the-mill crooks. They were sick bastards. Once again, we see the brutality and cruelty of the lawless in Mexico. They thought they could prey on this American couple. When they refused to hand over their property, this scum riddled them with bullets.
Stories like this come out of Mexico all the time. Well-meaning Americans move or vacation in the country. They naively believe they’ll be safe. After all, they’re still in North America, right? There’s no way Mexico is any less safe than the United States.
Well, my friends, America might have its problem areas, but it’s nothing compared to Mexico. Their corrupt government and dirty police have allowed some regions to come under the control of notorious drug cartels. Their influence is so wide-spread, even “safe” regions can be affected.
Big surprise, neighbors of the couple claim “this never happens in our town.”
“We have no memory of having a shooting here,” Tom Mitchell, an American who also has a home in Bahia de los Angeles, told the Union-Tribune. “This has taken it to a level that no one here has experienced.”

“This was so out of character for our community,” Mitchell said. [Source: Fox News]
Tell that to the dead couple. It’s amazing how people will try to excuse this kind of evil. A couple who just wanted to enjoy their retirement was viciously killed over a boat. It was a time in their life to enjoy; it ended in tragedy.
We can’t help but think if this would have happened if they stayed in America. Usually, retirement communities and towns in the U.S. aren’t full of criminals. Perhaps other couples will learn from this.
