Ben Carson Unveils New Welfare Program That Forces Freeloaders To Work

If you want to get people off welfare, get them working.
You don’t accomplish this by giving them more money and more incentive to not work. Democrats have never figured this out.
But Housing and Urban Development Secretary Ben Carson understands the concept perfectly well, which is why he’s proposing a far-reaching plan that freeloaders really won’t like.
If all this happens, it’ll mean that welfare leeches won’t be able to drain millions from hard-working Americans for years on end.
It’ll mean capable individuals will have to work more, become more responsible, and you know, be contributing adults in society.
Carson’s sweeping changes to federal housing subsidies include tripling rent for the poorest households and imposing work requirements on those who take advantage of assistance.
This falls in line with President Donald Trump’s continued and sustained effort to battle the out-of-control welfare situation in the U.S.

“The initiative unveiled by Carson Wednesday would raise the rent for tenants in subsidized housing to 35 percent of gross income (or 35 percent of their earnings working 15 hours a week at the federal minimum wage), up from the current standard of 30 percent of adjusted income.
About half of the 4.7 million families receiving housing benefits would be affected, HUD officials said.
The cap on rent for the poorest families would rise to about $150 a month — three times higher than the existing $50 ceiling. About 712,000 households would see their monthly rents rise to $150, the officials said.
‘There is one inescapable imperative driving this reform effort,’ Carson said in a call with reporters.
‘The current system isn’t working very well. Doing nothing is not an option.’”
Carson added that government spending on housing goes up every year, and without reaching the majority of those who actually qualify for aid.
This is a monumental expense and it’s all the more deplorable because it quite clearly doesn’t work.
Added Carson:
“Every year, it takes more money, millions of dollars more, to serve the same number of households.
It’s clear from a budget perspective and a human point of view that the current system is unsustainable.”
Furthermore, Carson said the outdated rules on rent calculations are “far too confusing” and families who earn the same income can pay drastically different rent “because they know how to work the system.”
And that, right there, is this country’s biggest problem: leeches working the system.
They’re not working, of course, but they expect us to continue to pay for them. And this level of selfishness and laziness – caused by entitled liberals – needs to disappear.
Carson finished by saying we need to “level the playing field and make it much more even for everyone,” which makes perfect sense.
Toss in the idea of letting public housing authorities impose work requirements, and we’ve got a plan that America really needs!
