The partnership between Ben Shapiro’s media company and Candace Owens has been terminated following an extended public disagreement concerning the conflict between Israel and Hamas.
Jeremy Boreing, co-founder of The Daily Wire, announced on Twitter, “Daily Wire and Candace Owens have parted ways.” Owens responded on her X account, stating, “The rumors are true—I am finally free.” There has been no immediate comment from representatives of The Daily Wire or Owens.
Since 2021, Owens had been part of Shapiro’s platform, leading a daily podcast known for its strong MAGA conservative stance and conspiracy theory discussions.
Initially, Shapiro defended Owens’ controversial statements, but their relationship soured after the October 7 attack by Hamas on Israel, leading to a public spat. This included Shapiro challenging Owens to leave the company.
The conflict escalated when Owens tweeted against government-sanctioned genocide without explicitly naming Israel. Her comments, perceived negatively by fellow conservatives, led Shapiro to criticize her publicly as “disgraceful” and accuse her of pretending to understand the complexities of the Israel-Hamas conflict.
The situation intensified when Owens used biblical references on X, interpreted by many as insinuating Shapiro had dual loyalties, a notion deemed antisemitic. Shapiro’s retort suggested Owens should resign if she felt conflicted about her earnings from The Daily Wire. Owens countered, accusing Shapiro of being unprofessional.
Owens also discussed the dispute on Tucker Carlson’s show, criticizing Shapiro for not engaging with her arguments intellectually. Meanwhile, Shapiro had previously refrained from strongly criticizing Owens, even when she made controversial statements, due to her significant role in his media network.
However, the tension reached a climax when Owens engaged with a post referencing the antisemitic “blood libel” myth. This followed a period where Owens had previously caused a stir by defending controversial statements made by Kanye West, which Shapiro had only weakly contested. This breakdown in relations marks a significant shift in the dynamic within The Daily Wire, highlighting a move away from previous reluctances to confront contentious issues within the conservative media circle.
