Baghdad, IRAQ — Over thirty people were killed and injured as a bomb exploded in north of Baghdad, security sources said on Wednesday.
Speaking to Almaalomah website, the source said “a suicide attacker blew up himself in Heseiwa region in Tarmiyah district, north of Baghdad.”
Iraqi News reports that the death toll, according to the source, “went up to seven civilians, while the injured number reached 25 civilians.”
“Security troops cordoned off the blast scene. The victims were taken to hospital, while the wounded were transferred to nearby hospital for treatment,” the source added.
Earlier today, the Iraqi Security Media Center was quoted saying that an attacker targeted a “mourning ceremony” in Tarimiya, leaving a number of civilians dead and wounded.

Islamic State continues to launch sporadic attacks across Iraq against troops. Security reports indicate that the militant group still poses threat against stability in the country.
Thousands of Islamic State militants as well as Iraqi civilians were killed since the government campaign, backed by paramilitary troops and the coalition was launched in October 2016 to fight the militant group, which declared a self-styled “caliphate” from Mosul in June 2014.
