All he wanted was some chicken, but a 49-year-old Florida man came face to face with danger on Sunday instead. Luckily, he was able to defend himself and teach a carjacking punk a lesson because he had his firearm with him. This is another case of a good guy with a gun, protecting himself from harm, that the mainstream media would rather you not hear about.
Leon Anthony Ducally was headed into the New Texas Fried Chicken near the Mall at Millenia in Orlando around midnight when he was approached by an alleged carjacker, later identified as 36-year-old Jan Demetri Goodman, who he said assaulted him as he walked into the business, The Orlando Sentinel reported.
Ducally, who has a valid concealed carry permit, stood his ground and shot Goodman. When police arrived at the scene, they found Goodman unresponsive. Police unsuccessfully attempted to resuscitate Goodman before he was transported to Orlando Regional Medical Center, where he was pronounced dead.
Goodman had an arrest sheet a mile long that included selling marijuana, evading police officers, resisting arrest, possession of drug paraphernalia, driving with a suspended license, and violation of probation, according to Arrest Facts.
And, this shooting was not the first of its kind this year. A similar incident occurred in Milwaukee in February when a 21-year-old suspect, identified as Carlos Martin, was shot and killed by his intended victim, a 24-year-old man, near the Milwaukee MachineTool Corporation. It was a shooting that, police said, should have been something would-be carjackers considered before attempting to rob someone, Fox 6 reported.
“It’s sad. It’s unnecessary and it’s completely preventable,” Alderman Cavalier Johnson said. “That young man didn’t have to die today. He didn’t have to lose his life, but he made a bad decision and he did,” he added.
“You feel threatened like that, and you end up having to take somebody’s life — I can’t even imagine what type of trauma you end up going through,” Alderman Johnson continued. “This isn’t a game. This isn’t live-action Grand Theft Auto. You don’t respawn after you’re dead.”
Many workers in the area said that carjackers were a common issue and that many of them were concealed carry permit holders. The shooter, in this case, also had a permit.
“It’s really dark over here, and early in the morning, it makes you a little nervous and scared now to come into work that early,” Leah Williams told Fox 6. “He was protecting himself basically.”
“It’s a war zone, so you’re used to carjackers. You’re used to murderers. You gotta watch out for stuff like that. If not you’re a victim — I’m not trying to be a victim,” Gabriel Alwin said, adding, “I think everybody around here pretty much carries. We got guys that carry here and I’ve told them when we pull in here and we’re waiting, put it right on your lap. Put it on your lap and we face the gate. We back in so our fronts are facing the gate open. Everything is conscious of what’s going on in this area.”
In that case, the suspect was armed with a gun. The details of the Florida case are not currently known. But, this is what liberals cannot comprehend about the right to bear arms. If the victim in Sunday’s attack had waited for police, he would have gotten carjacked first and possibly murdered. The police cannot be everywhere at the same time, and criminals often stalk their victims. They search their surroundings and wait for a time when police are not around to strike.
This is the reason that Americans fight hard for their right to bear arms. In that microsecond, the victim has the opportunity to fight or be killed. The Second Amendment affords American citizens the right to defend themselves. It is a right, not given by the government but by God, and enshrined in the Constitution to not be taken from us. If liberals want to rely on the kindness of their attackers to not murder them, they have that right. But, to attempt to take the right to self-defense from other Americans is unconscionable.
