Former first lady and presidential mother Barbara Pierce Bush was laid to rest this weekend in Texas. After her beautiful funeral service on Saturday, George W. Bush posted a photo of his mother’s casket being carried by a military honor guard to her final resting place. One detail about the heart-wrenching picture has left viewers crushed.

On Saturday, some of America’s most powerful political figures traveled to Houston, Texas, to pay their respects to Barbara Bush, who died on Tuesday. According to The Daily Caller, Melania Trump, Barack and Michelle Obama, and Bill and Hillary Clinton were all in attendance at the beautiful funeral service which honored Mrs. Bush with stories of her service, philanthropy, and raw honesty in the public arena.

After the service, the Bush family accompanied Barbara’s casket to the Bush presidential library in College Station, Texas, where members of the military honor guard carried the iconic first lady to her final resting place. Barbara’s firstborn son, former President George W. Bush, posted a photo of the moment showing his family, including his wife Laura and their twin daughters, standing at attention and looking on at the casket of their beloved family member.
As we all know, a picture says a thousand words, and this one was no exception. The solemn faces of the Bush family as they watch Barbara’s casket pass are enough to bring tears to your eyes. George H. W. Bush can also be seen in the snapshot, sitting in his wheelchair and never taking his eyes off the woman whom he was married to for 73 years. Indeed, George and Barbara spent a lifetime loving one another, and what a life it was.

While George W. Bush’s picture certainly says a thousand words or more, he only needed seven words to completely crush viewers with his caption: “Give Robin a hug for us, Mom.”
Bush was referring to his sister, Robin, the first daughter of George and Barbara, who died of leukemia at just 3-years-old. Barbara Bush was buried next to Robin at the Bush family library.

George’s emotional post prompted an outpouring of support from fellow social media users who were also heartbroken over Barbara’s passing, yet comforted to know that she had been reunited with her precious daughter in Heaven. “Mr. President, I have admired your entire family for years. I thank God for gifting all us with your Mom. She has and continues to inspire so many. Please know we are storming heaven with prayers for your entire family. May His peace comfort you all during this difficult time,” wrote one Instagram user.

“My heart is heavy for the loss of a great woman, wife, mother, grandmother, great grandmother, First Lady and First Mother. May God bless this family for a great loss but a great addition to all in Heaven,” commented another.
“It’s by the Grace of God that your Mother and Father gave their lives to their country and You have done the same as well, every day my goal is to help my Children live up to your family’s example President Bush! We are so sorry that your Mom is no longer here, please accept our condolences at this time of such great loss and may God bless the Bush family now and always,” wrote someone else.

The country lost a national treasure when Barbara Bush passed on last week. She was one of only two women in history to have been married to one U.S. president and birthed another — Abigail Adams was the only other woman who could claim the same distinction.

Barbara Bush will forever be missed, but her legacy will live on in the many lives she positively affected through her tireless work to promote the literacy of Americans of all ages. Please continue to keep the entire Bush family in your thoughts and prayers as they grieve the loss of their beloved matriarch.
