A 70-year-old grandmother woke up to find a man breaking into her home. Despite warning him, the man continued to enter her house. That’s when she took matters into her own hands. Now, this scumbag is reevaluating his life choices.
Life can be dangerous in a big city like Philadelphia. Although it’s called the “City of Brotherly Love,” all too often the residents don’t act that way. Crime is rampant, especially in some parts of the city. Perhaps those worst off than anyone else are the elderly.
Older Americans are frequently the victims of crime. Scumbags think they can take advantage of them because they are often too frail to fight back. Even worse, some elderly are mentally unfit to react to danger.
That’s probably what one man thought when he tried to break into Maxine Thompson’s house. The 70-year-old grandmother was woken up at 4:30 in the morning. Someone was banging against the side of her house. She discovered a man trying to break in. When she warned him to get away, he ignored her. He smashed through a dining room window and got inside.
Terrified, Thompson refused to let this man win. She found her late mother’s old handgun and took matters into her hands. Although it was the first time she had used the gun, she managed to shoot at this crook. The man tried to get away, but she kept firing. Only when he fled the house to a nearby car wash did she stop.
Way to go, grandma.
A gun-toting 70-year-old grandmother took matters into her own hands early Saturday morning when she shot and wounded an alleged home intruder attempting to break into her Philadelphia residence.
Maxine Thompson told Fox 29 she woke up around 4:30 a.m. and heard banging outside her house. Police said a 43-year-old man attempted to break into the grandmother’s Philadelphia home at the time.
“First I thought I was dreaming, and then I looked out the window, outside. I was still hearing the banging, banging, banging, so I yelled to whoever, ‘Who’s that on my door? Get off my door, get off my door,’” Thompson recalled.
Despite her warnings, the alleged burglar didn’t stop and continued to smash her dining room window and enter the house. Thompson, going into survival mode, grabbed her late mother’s handgun and shot at the suspect. She told Fox 29 it was her first time using the gun.
“I shot at him. He turned around and he ran and when he ran, I ran down the steps behind him and shot at him some more,” Thompson recalled. “Kill him before he kills me. That’s what was going through my mind.” [Source: Fox News]
We say this time and again, but it bears repeating: the only thing that stops a bad guy with a gun is a good guy with a gun. Or in this case, the only thing that stops a rotten criminal is a good grandma with a gun.
Notice how quickly things turned around the moment she used the gun. Thompson wasn’t even a marksman. But when she fired at the man, he got moving. A second before, he thought he could do whatever he wanted. Even when she warned him to leave, he burst into her home. From there, he could have robbed her blind — or done much worse.
Even though she had little experience, she did nail him in the upper arm. Good shot, grandma. Often, simply brandishing a gun is enough to make criminals flee. Most crooks don’t expect citizens to be armed and ready to defend themselves. They thrive on the notion that most people are too scared or unequipped to fight back. So, when a person pulls out a gun, criminals are terrified and panic. Those that are stupid enough to stick around, well… they end up dead.
Thompson’s words are worth repeating. “Kill him before he kills me.” That crook might not have wanted to harm her. Maybe, he just wanted to grab some valuables and flee. We don’t know. The fact remains, someone who is determined to break into a home is extremely dangerous. Thompson — the mother of a police officer — knew full well what this man was capable of doing. She wasn’t going to let him take her life. Meanwhile, Democrats work overtime to stripe our gun rights away.
