As the news broke that First Lady Melania Trump will not attend the upcoming June 12 trip to Singapore for the U.S. – North Korea summit with her husband, President Donald Trump. The news comes after Melania’s spokeswoman told NBC News that she will not be attending the G7 summit in Canada this week with the president. This news follows just one day after the announcement that Melania would not be joining President Trump at Camp David this past weekend.
Melania’s spokesman stated of the absences that Melania “has been involved in several internal meetings with staff all last week, and that continues this week. We’ve been going over initiatives and other long-term planning for events such as the Congressional Picnic and 4th of July.”
Naturally, the leftist progressives are rampant with speculation about the First Lady’s absence from the public eye. The 48-year-old has not been seen publically since Thursday, May 10, 2018, when she stood side by side with her husband and welcomed home three Americans held hostage in North Korea.
Melania was last seen May 10 at Andrews Air Force Base, where she joined her husband in welcoming home three Americans who had been detained in North Korea. Four days later she was hospitalized and stayed at Walter Reed Medical Center for five days. It was a “successful procedure,” President Donald Trump tweeted on her first day at the hospital. However, the New York Post notes this is an “unusually long absence” for even the most private presidential spouses.
Melania’s first public appearance has her joining President Trump on Monday at a “closed press” event honoring Gold Star families. This means Melania will still be mostly out of the spotlight while on the State Floor of the White House for the reception. The reception on Monday evening is intended to honor the families of service members k****d in the line of duty.
Melania Trump’s more than three-week absence spurred conspiracy theories, one being that she has moved back to New York.
The first lady tweeted on May 30 in response to rampant and wild media speculation on just where she was, what she was doing, who she as with, and if she had left the President. She stated – “I see the media is working overtime speculating where I am & what I’m doing. Rest assured, I’m here at the @WhiteHouse w my family, feeling great, & working hard on behalf of children & the American people!”
NBC News reported – “Embolization procedures are used to block blood vessels to prevent bleeding, for example, or to block blood flow to tumors. They are often done on an outpatient basis that can require an overnight stay.
But Mrs. Trump was expected to remain hospitalized for several days after the procedure was done at Walter Reed National Military Medical Center in Bethesda, Maryland, her office said.
The statement offered no other details about Mrs. Trump’s hospital stay or the procedure — although President Trump tweeted on May 14 that she was “in good spirits” and that the procedure was ‘successful.’”
Newsweek reported of the first lady’s prolonged absence from the public eye stating “Many social media users were skeptical that Melania Trump herself wrote that tweet. A former model from Slovenia, Melania is the mother of Trump’s third and youngest son, 12-year-old Barron Trump.
Reports in January of an affair Donald Trump allegedly had with adult film star Stormy Daniels, whose real name is Stephanie Clifford, exacerbated speculation that Melania Trump was unhappy serving as the first lady and with the spotlight that comes with it.
However, she has taken on more responsibilities since her husband was inaugurated, and on May 7 unveiled her ‘Be Best’ initiative, aimed at helping children with their social media presence and fighting opioid abuse, among other issues.”
