The sensationalist rapper who everyone loves to hate, Kanye West is spilling all the juicy details about the noticeable rift that has developed between him and former President Barack Obama in a nearly two-hour-long interview with the Breakfast Club’s Charlamagne Tha God.
West details how Obama came to him and begged for his support and he agreed – “Obama came to me before he ran for office and he met with me and my mother to let me know he was going to run for office because I am his favorite artist of all time.”
But Obama’s support of West was withdrawn after a 2009 incident at the MTV Video Music Awards after West interrupted Taylor Swift on stage going on a diatribe about how he believed Beyonce should have won rather than Swift. Despite West’s immediate apology, many viewers felt West’s boorish behavior was offputting were not terribly forgiving. Obama was even caught on film calling West names shortly after the events in question.
West expressed his disgust at the insincerity, stating: “He never called me to apologize. The same person that sat down with me and my mom I think should have communicated to me directly.”
West went on to troll Obama in a subtle but mocking way, conjuring up images of Obama frolicking in the surf with Richard Branson. “I love Obama! I’m sure we’ll hang out, go to Richard Branson’s island…. [It’ll] be cool”
Branson has dominated recent news coverage amongst implicated in the underage trafficking scandal that Hollywood star Allison Mack is facing indictment for and stemming from allegations that members of the Nxivm cult led by Mack reportedly held wild parties Branson’s private Caribbean island at least twice.
According to The Sun, several members, including co-founder Nancy Salzman, visited Branson’s Necker Island for two seminars in 2007 and 2010.
Former Nxivm publicist Frank Parlato told the newspaper: ‘I was told the reason they staged the seminars on Necker was they hoped to recruit Branson into the organization.’
Clearly, the comments were tongue in cheek as it is highly doubtful anyone, except investigators, will be visiting Branson’s island soon. Surely, West knows that.
West went on to speak of just how fickle Obama’s friendship was, conditional on what Obama needed out of West and frankly not true friendship at all. West seemed genuinely hurt remembering that time.

“I think we were just in a period where he had so much stuff to deal with. You played Touch the Sky at your inauguration but all of a sudden Kendrick and Dre and all the people you invite to the White House, now these are your favorite rappers? I ain’t got no problem with these rappers, but you know I’m your favorite. But I’m not safe. But that’s why you love me! So just tell me you love me and tell the world you love me. Don’t tell the world I’m a jack-ss. I’m fighting hard enough.”
When asked what his own presidential campaign might look like West doesn’t make any further announcements about his own political run, but he does have an idea of how it might take shape. Explaining it is more likely to be a hybrid of the Trump campaign and perhaps the Bernie Sanders principles. West laughs and states, “That would be my mix. But I think both are needed.”
West explains why he has an affection for Donald Trump expanding on the same sentiment he expressed to T.I., Kanye says he loves Donald Trump because he feels they are both outsiders and seeing an outsider win the presidency gives him hope for himself. He states – “I don’t have all the answers that a celebrity is supposed to have. But I can tell you that when he was running, I felt something. The fact that he won proves something. It proved that anything is possible in America that Donald Trump could be president. I’m not talking about what he’s done since he’s been in office. Remember when I said I was gonna run for president? I had friends of mine making jokes, making memes, talking shit. Now it’s proven that that could happen … When I see an outsider infiltrate, I connect with that. It’s a time for the unconventional.”
