Jay-Z is currently facing a lawsuit alleging that he and Sean “Diddy” Combs r*ped a woman when she was 13 years old at a 2000 VMAs afterparty. Both artists have denied the accusations. In recent court proceedings, Jay-Z’s attorney, Alex Spiro, sought to have the accuser’s identity revealed, a move that Judge Analisa Torres criticized as “relentless” and wasteful. The judge has granted the accuser anonymity for the next stage of the proceedings.

The accuser has acknowledged some inconsistencies in her account but maintains her memory of the alleged assault. Jay-Z has condemned the lawsuit as a blackmail attempt and has vowed to fight the accusations publicly.

In a separate case, Luigi Mangione, 26, has pleaded not guilty to state murder charges in the Manhattan Supreme Court. He is accused of fatally shooting UnitedHealthcare CEO Brian Thompson. Mangione’s attorney, Karen Friedman Agnifilo, has raised concerns about his right to a fair trial, citing potential jury prejudice due to Mangione’s heavily publicized arrest involving a large presence of law enforcement. Manhattan District Attorney Alvin Bragg described the killing as a “brazen, targeted” act. Mangione faces multiple charges, including first and second-degree murder, weapons charges, and forgery, with the possibility of life imprisonment. He also faces federal charges, potentially resulting in the death penalty, and additional charges in Pennsylvania, where he was apprehended after a manhunt. Mangione is currently held at the Metropolitan Detention Center in Brooklyn.
