This series is not intended to be an exhaustive treatment on this subject. There is a great deal more information available regarding the evolution of the Ancient Astronaut Hypothesis. This four-part mini-series is geared more to the average viewer who is somewhat knowledgeable with this topic but not necessarily familiar with its origin and history. Please note that this topic is about the conception and development of a hypothesis, NOT the origin of Ancient Astronauts in any particular culture. This series observes those figures in History who began contemplating (outside of a cultural mythos) the probability of extraterrestrial life and the possibility that those beings visited Earth in our ancient past and manipulated our genome.

Ancient ruins around the world have withstood the test of time and remain standing for academics and laymen alike to ponder and study. Many of the methods used to create these ancient cities, temples, and monuments remain rather mysterious and unexplained. The Archive’s Unexplained Structures Series endeavors to acquaint the viewer with these locations and present some of the potential alternative explanations for their existence.

The Great Sphinx of Giza is a colossal sculpture of a creature with the body of a lion and the head of a human. The greatest monumental sculpture in the ancient world, it is carved out of a single ridge of limestone 240 feet (73 meters) long and 66 feet (20 meters) high. The Sphinx has been a symbol of Egypt from ancient times to the present. It has inspired the imaginations of artists, poets, adventurers, scholars and travelers for centuries and has also inspired endless speculation about its age, its meaning and the secrets that it might hold.

Some of you who are unfamiliar with or who are new to the Ancient Astronaut Hypothesis, may be wondering about its relevance to the Egyptian god Thoth and the Emerald Tablets. Primarily through the works of Zecharia Sitchin and other scholars researching the ancient Sumerian, Babylonian and Akkadian texts, a connection has been proposed between the pantheons of Sumerian gods and the Egyptian gods. Actually, it is more than a connection, many of the gods are one and the same. One of the primary tenets of the Ancient Astronaut Hypothesis is that the Sumerian gods were real beings and not just part of a mythological construct of the earliest known civilization. As such, to find these gods’ equivalencies in other cultures and civilizations is of paramount importance. Such is the case Thoth.
