If it truly disintegrates and slows down in momentum, the debris and hydrogen cyanide gases will eventually be pulled into Earth’s atmosphere in late Sept as we pass through it’s tail. THIS, IMO, IS A WORSE CASE SCENARIO. As of Aug 31st, ELEnin is only .978AU away from us, and it’s still mostly intact. I pray it stays intact and breaks apart AFTER it leaves Earth’s orbital path around late October. If not, we are in some deep shit. Something I learned in my early engineering classes… Objects in motion tend to stay in motion with the same speed and the same direction unless acted upon by an unbalanced force. Earth may now have to deal with the possibility of being pelted with a ton of debris and toxic hydrogen cyanide gases if the comet is in a process of disintegration. This comet was supposed to be a safe 22 Million miles away from Earth at it’s closest point (INTACT). Now, there is no way JPL can develop an accurate model of where the debris and gases will go if it disintegrates. Most likely, Earth’s gravity will pull it into our orbit as its momentum slows.
