Most people would recognize Kevin Russell as the frontman of Austin-based party band The Gourds, though he has recently stepped out to play shows under his nickname, Shinyribs. His first release, “Well After Awhile,” dials back the quirky bluegrass sound of his band, letting his powerful voice come to the front of the mix. He joined Joe Kozera on the KXT Afternoon show on Friday, August 6, to play a few of his soulful tunes.
