A 21-year-old New York man decided to mock police officers being killed. The young man got caught because he photographed himself doing it, then shared it on Facebook. Now, he’s receiving some unexpected consequences, but he wants to blame those same police officers for ruining his life.
Kelvin Rodriguez, 21, thought it would be a good idea to pose with a firearm next to a Bronx 45th Precinct patrol car as a friend of his spoke to the police officers through the passenger side window of their vehicle. He then thought it would be even more of a genius move to share the photo on Facebook, in essence showing how simple it would be to ambush and murder police officers. Now, he thinks it is the police officer’s fault that he got caught and his new job is in jeopardy.
“I was about to become a teacher’s assistant, but this has messed me up,” Kelvin Rodriguez, 21, told New York Daily News when he spoke to the newspaper at his Westchester Square home. He told the paper that his subsequent arrest could cost him a job he applied for working with children at the Brightside Academy child care center.
“I have all my certificates,” he told the Daily News as he showed his papers that show he is trained to work with children suffering from shaken baby syndrome and how to spot signs of child abuse. “They’re making me out to be a terrorist … I’m not a monster.”
You are not a monster, but to say that you made a ridiculous decision is an understatement. Rodriquez posed for the photo, and it was shared on Facebook on Friday by a user named “Relz DA Blixky.” The photo showed Rodriguez with a gun in his right hand at the side of a police car as another person talked to the officers. “Ya see da blixky … stupid dum n-**as … f**k da 45th,” he wrote in a comment on the photo. “Blixky” is slang for gun.
But it was not the police who were dumb, or as he spelled it “dum,” it was Rodriguez. It also was not “da 45” who got f**ked. Days after the image was shared on Facebook, Rodriguez got a rude awakening.
Police caught and arrested Rodriguez as he was riding his bike the wrong way on a one way street near his home on Frisbee Ave. And, as it happened, Rodriguez was nabbed for more crimes than just the photograph.
“A criminal complaint charged Rodriguez with drug possession, harassment and criminal possession of a weapon. He was released on his own recognizance after an appearance in Bronx Criminal Court,” New York Daily News wrote. “Rodriguez says cops found him with prescription Xanax and Valium.”
You mean the thug who posed with a gun near a police car was also packing drugs? Shocking, isn’t it? It also does not help that Rodriguez has a plethora of other photographs on his Facebook page that show him flashing gang signs, smoking what appears to be marijuana, and holding wads of cash.
“I was just riding my bike on the street and they tackled me. There were five cops on top of me,” he said. “I take medication for anxiety and depression. I am diagnosed with schizophrenia.”
Diagnosed with schizophrenia, brandishing a gun, and carrying marijuana. Yeah, it is the police officers’ fault that you could lose the chance to work with kids. What parent does not want their child being taken care of by a schizophrenic, drug abusing gun carrier?
“There was no threat,” Rodriguez said. “I’m a good kid.”
At 21, you could be a good kid who made a horrid choice because you wanted to look tough for your friends, but this is your first lesson in being an adult. You have to take responsibility for your actions. It is no one’s fault but your own that you posed with a gun near a police car or had drugs on you when you were caught.
