As previously reported in our article Drug Company Refuses Life-Saving Medication For 7 Year Old Boy After Donations Raised To Cover Cost, young Josh Hardy has been fighting for his life, and the medication that could possibly save him was being denied by the drug company Chimerix.
We are happy to now report that our voices have been heard! In this case, social media made a difference, as Josh’s story quickly went viral with public outcry. According to ABC News yesterday, Chimerix announced that Josh’s story accelerated talks with the Food and Drug Administration, allowing it to launch a 20-patient open-label clinical trial today. Josh will be the first patient and is expected to receive the drug within 48 hours.
On Good Morning America, Josh’s mother Aimee Hardy thanked America for the love and support. Here at Mad World News, we would also like to thank all of those that raised their voices to plea Josh’s case and to those that shared his story. This shows that we can make a difference. We will continue to pray for Josh and his family.
