Late night television is on late at night for a good reason. There are higher standards for prime time TV, which is likely to be consumed by a much broader audience of people, including the young and innocent. For a long time television has been getting worse as far as objectionable content, but some would say that late night comedians have gone too far.
While the ratings dictate what most comedians do with their shows, it would have been nice to assume that they had some boundaries that they weren’t willing to cross. And that idea was perpetuated by the trending #metoo movement when people like Jimmy Kimmel tried very hard to make the world see them as virtuous and above reproach.
However, as it turns out that virtue only extends to those whose political beliefs align with their own since they’re willing to take any cheap shot they want at the First Family, namely the First Lady, Melania Trump. Kimel has now taken it too far though, as Fox News reports, there’s now a petition to boycott his show after he made fun of the FLOTUS’s reading at the Easter Egg Roll:
“ABC late-night host Jimmy Kimmel’s recent jokes about first lady Melania Trump are apparently offending a lot of viewers.
An online petition launched recently, calling for a boycott of “Jimmy Kimmel Live,” and has exceeded its goal of 50,000 signatures. Organizers say the petition will eventually be sent to “the front door of Disney/ABC Studios” Burbank, Calif.
“We may not get him kicked off the air,” the petition says. “But we can send a message that these attacks on our First Lady will NOT be tolerated!”
Specifically, offended viewers appear to take issue with Kimmel’s jokes about the first lady’s Slovenian accent. On Monday, he mocked Melania Trump’s reading to children during a White House Easter celebration.

“Dees and dat,” Kimmel joked, of her pronunciation of “this or that.”
Kimmel’s targeting of the first lady seems to contradict the network’s recent assertions that it has captured the hearts of middle America since launching the rebooted “Roseanne” sitcom.
As previously reported just days ago, this slippery slope has been in progress for some time. It’s particularly disheartening when it’s pointed at an individual who’s dedicating her life to public service, but it’s not a new concept on the part of comedians:
