It’s debatable — and certainly the gravamen of this debate — as to what search engine giants such as Google/Alphabet should be involved in. After all, it’s their property, inventory and liability. What is the subject of great concern and understandable investigation, however, is the isolated and ostensibly punitive relegation and demarcation of certain media platforms such as RT to the lists of the de-ranked and, for all practical purposes, the invisible. That’s the issue front and center. In 2000 Google lauded its corporate motto: Don’t be evil. What’s more evil than censoring, shelving and exiling opinion and ideas in an information platform?
