In a candid interview with Piers Morgan Uncensored, actor Kevin Spacey addressed his recent legal battles, personal struggles, and future plans. This marked his first extensive interview since winning most of the sexual misconduct suits against him over the past several years. Spacey previously had a brief conversation with NewsNation’s Chris Cuomo last month.
The hour-plus interview covered the allegations against him, his mental state, sexuality, childhood, and financial troubles. Spacey became emotional when discussing his home in Baltimore, which is in foreclosure and set to be auctioned at a fire sale. “I’m not quite sure where I’m going to live now,” he admitted, revealing that he is broke and owes millions in legal fees.
Spacey reflected on his past reluctance to discuss his personal life and sexuality. Identifying as gay, he also mentioned his difficult relationship with his mother, who he says did not protect him from his neo-Nazi father.
The actor recounted the impact of the allegations made by Anthony Rapp in 2017, which left him “in a very, very dark place.” Rapp had claimed in a 2017 BuzzFeed article and on the witness stand that Spacey attempted to initiate sex with him in 1986 when Rapp was 14. Spacey denied these charges, asserting that Rapp and a friend had visited his home to meet his dog. A jury found Spacey not liable in a 2022 lawsuit brought by Rapp. Reflecting on the accusations, Spacey spoke of forgiveness, expressing hope that Rapp might someday accept that he had a “faulty memory.”
Rapp’s allegations were among several that placed Spacey at the forefront of the #MeToo movement in 2017. Last year, he was found not guilty on nine charges of sexual assault by London’s Southwark Crown Court, related to allegations involving four men between 2001 and 2013. Spacey is set to face a civil trial in the UK next year, following a lawsuit by a man who claims the actor sexually assaulted him, causing psychiatric damage and financial loss.
Spacey also owes $31 million to House of Cards producers Media Rights Capital for hastening the show’s end, which was deemed a breach of his acting and producing agreements.
A two-part documentary, “Spacey Unmasked,” which examines the allegations against him, recently aired in the UK and is now streaming on Max.
