Donald Trump’s incoming “border czar,” Tom Homan, has expressed that the new administration plans to ensure that states align with their immigration enforcement strategies by potentially revoking federal funding for those that resist.
During an insightful interview on Fox News with Mark Levin on Sunday, Homan emphasized the critical role of state cooperation in executing the administration’s immigration policies. He highlighted, “I believe that if governors or mayors attempt to obstruct our mission, they should expect repercussions, such as a reduction in federal funding.”
Levin, posing a scenario, asked, “If you have a governor who says I am not going to cooperate, I’m going to block you … federal funds should be slashed to that state?”
Homan affirmed, “That’s going to happen. President Trump will do that,” underscoring the administration’s commitment to its agenda.
Homan further elaborated on the focus of these policies, stating, “President Trump has made it clear, we’re going to prioritize public safety threats and national security threats right out of the gate because they pose the most danger to this country. What governor or mayor doesn’t want public safety threats and national security threats out of their neighborhoods, out of their communities? That’s their number one responsibility.”
Homan, who was among the first appointments by Trump for his incoming administration, brings a wealth of experience from his previous role as acting director of U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) during Trump’s first term. His new role, which bypasses the need for Senate confirmation, empowers him to lead Trump’s ambitious plans for a significant deportation operation, aligning with the administration’s priorities for a second term. His tenure under President Obama was marked by record-breaking numbers in deportation operations, setting a precedent for the policies he advocates today.
