Former President George H.W. Bush honored his late wife Saturday by wearing socks embellished with books on them to celebrate the former first lady’s commitment to literacy at her funeral, FOX News reports.
Bush wore the black socks decorated with colorful books at the funeral service at St. Martin’s Episcopal Church in Houston.
Bush’s former White House spokesperson, Jim McGrath, tweeted about the socks raising awareness about their meaning.
“To honor his wife of 73 years and her commitment to family literacy, for which she raised over $110 million over the course of over 30 years, @GeorgeHWBush will be wearing a pair of socks festooned with books at today’s funeral service for former First Lady Barbara Bush.”
“The socks worn by the 41st President of the United States of America at today’s funeral for former First Lady Barbara Bush.”
The former first lady died Tuesday at the age of 92 surrounded by her family at her Houston home. Some 1,500 people gathered Saturday to say their farewells to Bush a day after more than 6,000 people paid their respects during a public viewing.
Bush spoke about the importance of literacy during her tenure as first lady and encouraged people to read. The Barbara Bush Foundation for Family Literacy has provided more than $110 million to create or expand family literacy programs in all 50 U.S. states and the District of Columbia, according to the foundation.
“I chose literacy because I honestly believe that if more people could read, write, and comprehend, we would be that much closer to solving so many of the problems that plague our nation and our society,” the former first lady said.
Rest in peace Mrs. Bush.
Even though she hated Trump I’ll still wish her the best when she’s in heaven.

On Friday, Missouri Gov. Eric Greitens was indicted on a felony charge of computer tampering stemming from actions related to his campaign and a nonprofit donor list.
St. Louis prosecutors allege that the Republican Governor took data from a veterans charity that he founded and used the information to raise money for his political campaign in 2016 without the charity’s knowledge.
Greitens founded the charity, The Mission Continues, to support military veterans as they readjust to civilian life. But a probable cause statement issued by the St. Louis Circuit Attorney’s Office charged that Greitens “directed the disclosure” of “data, specifically a donor list owned by The Mission Continues, to a political fundraiser … working on behalf of Greitens for Missouri.”
Greitens and an unnamed campaign aide “knew that the donor list disclosed on April 22, 2015, was taken without the permission of The Mission Continues.”
In a statement, Missouri Attorney General Josh Hawley said: “These are serious charges – and an important reminder that no one is above the law in Missouri.”
“This charge makes no sense at all,” said Greitens’ attorney, Ed Dowd, in response to the charges. “Now he’s being accused of stealing an email list from an organization he built? Give me a break. Not only did he create this list donor by donor, friend by friend, but the Mission Continues still has the list. The idea that this is a crime is absurd.”
“When I came home from Iraq after service as a Navy SEAL, I started the Mission Continues to help veterans,” Greitens responded in a statement. “In the seven years I ran that organization, we helped thousands of veterans, won national awards for excellence, and became one of the finest veteran’s charities in the country.”
“I stand by that work,” Greitens continued in the statement. “I will have my day in court. I will clear my name. This prosecutor can come after me with everything she’s got, but as all faithful people know: in time comes the truth. And the time for truth is coming.”
What Melania Did to Honor Barbara Bush at Her Funeral Will Make You Love Her Even More

Melania Trump invoked such amazing class and grace to honor fellow first lady Barbara Bush.
The gesture was subtle, but no less thoughtful when Melania brought former White House head maitre d’ George Hannie and White House usher Buddy Carter, both of whom had a close connection with the Bush family.
The invite-only event touted guests such as former President Barack Obama, former first lady Michelle Obama, former President Bill Clinton and former first lady Hillary Clinton.
USA Today reported Trump invited Hannie and Carter to be her guests because of Bush’s devotion to the White House staff during her years as the first lady.
“She knew they were very close to the Bush family and wanted them to be able to pay their respects,” NBC News’ Monica Alba tweeted Trump’s spokeswoman, Stephanie Grisham, said.
Carter began his work at the White House during the Bush administration after working for 15 years at Blair House.
Hannie, who grew up under Jim Crow laws in Alabama, served in the White House for 46 years, starting with former President Lyndon B. Johnson.
“The most memorable moment I had at the White House is seeing my mother walk up North Portico, all alone, to visit me and [former President] George and Barbara Bush in their personal quarters,” Hannie told MSNBC.

Dorothy Bush Koch, George and Barbara’s daughter, lovingly mentioned Hannie in her book. During her private wedding at Camp David, he was among the White House staff members who volunteered to help with the event. She wrote:
I’ll always remember what George Hannie, one of the extraordinary butlers who works at the White House, said to me. As I was thanking him, George spoke up and said, “It’s okay honey, but just don’t do it a third time.” Words to live by!
During the ceremony, former Gov. Jeb Bush (R-Fla.) delivered a eulogyand called his mom their “first and most important teacher.”
He noted that among the lessons she taught them was to treat others how you want to be treated and “love your God with your heart and soul.”
Barbara Bush passed away on Tuesday at the age of 92.
Benghazi Survivor Rips Apart ‘The View’ After They Call GOP House Probe into Benghazi ‘Petty’
Source: https://goo.gl/P2jjGJ
Holding government officials accountable and seeking justice for dead Americans is now “petty,” at least according to “The View.”
This week, the cast of the left-leaning chat show had some dismissive words for Republicans in Congress, and made a comparison so appalling that one of the survivors of Benghazi was forced to speak up.
“During Thursday’s episode of ‘The View,’ some of the hosts complained about how some House Republicans sent a letter to the Department of Justice asking for an investigation into former FBI Director James Comey, former Deputy Director Andrew McCabe, former Attorney General Loretta Lynch, and Hillary Clinton,” explained Independent Journal Review.
That call for an investigation wasn’t random. A pile of evidence including a recent inspector general report from the Justice Department implicates those “usual suspects” in a variety of misdeeds, including improperly ordering the FBI to drop its investigation of the Clinton Foundation in order to help Hillary win.
You’d think that uncovering the veracity about these allegations of corruption is important — after all, we’re supposed to believe in truth, justice and the American way. Shouldn’t holding people accountable be essential, no matter who is president?
Apparently not. “The hosts called it a waste of time and taxpayer money, similar to the House probe into the events that occurred in Benghazi, Libya,”.
“It seems like very petty revenge, and the sad thing about that is we are paying for that revenge, that pettiness, because these investigations come out of taxpayer dollars and I think we saw this with the Benghazi investigation, which went over two years, cost over $7 million and nothing was found,” whined co-host Sunny Hostin.
Yes, you heard that right: According to “The View,” investigating the failures in Benghazi that resulted in four dead Americans including the murder of a U.S. ambassador was just “pettiness.”
You could almost hear her channeling her inner Hillary Clinton: “What difference does it make?”
That’s when one of the men who was actually in Benghazi decided to speak out.
“Hey Whoopi Goldberg, Joy Behar and others on The View,” posted Kris Paronto on Facebook. “I don’t seem to remember you ever asking the actual participants in the Benghazi attack to come on your show so you would actually know the FACTS!”
Kris “Tanto” Paronto is a former Army Ranger and co-author of “13 Hours,” the now-famous book about the Benghazi incident. He was part of the CIA annex security team that helped protect the U.S. consulate in Libya, and was friends with the men who died.
He clearly didn’t share “The View’s” glib appraisal about the Benghazi investigation being “petty.” His post on Twitter was even more harsh.
“Thank U Sunny @TheView for continuing to lose any credibility you might have had by saying ignorant things & having immoral criminals disguised as former @FBI directors on your show,” he declared. “I’d also advise you to do your research on Benghazi b4 opening your cake hole again. @Comey.”
If you watched your friends die after Hillary Clinton had repeatedly refused requests for backup in Libya and then witnessed her and the Obama administration try to cover it up, you might be a bit on edge too.
Paronto is right. Pretending that it’s a waste of time to investigate people who abuse power is dismaying. Those in government are supposed to answer to the American people, and whether the topic is Benghazi or bureaucrats like Comey and McCabe, the truth should never be off limits.
WATCH CNN Anchor Gives Comey Surprise Treatment He Never Saw Coming

I have to give CNN’s Jake Tapper some credit. Sure, he sent some barbs Barack Obama’s way, but since then he’s mostly focused his invective on one Donald J. Trump.
However, as it turns out, Tapper isn’t just an anti-Trump drone (although he does plenty of that, don’t get me wrong). In fact, he’s pretty much a crotchety old man in middle-aged reporter’s body who doesn’t take any guff from Washingtonian swine.
This includes former FBI Director James Comey.
Comey, as you might have heard a few hundred times or so, is currently on a book tour promoting his new memoir, “A Higher Loyalty.”
As part of the tour, Comey decided to sit down with Tapper to discuss the most awaited book since “What Happened.” However, Comey quickly noticed that the atmosphere was a bit different than with George Stephanopoulos.
For my money, the funniest quote was when Tapper asked Comey about the impression inside the White House that the president has “weathered” the scandal.
“I have no idea. The book tour’s not about the president, the book’s about … starting a conversation about our values. Trump figures into it,” Comey said.
To quote the great political theorist Jeannie Bueller, dry that one out and you could fertilize the lawn. And, to his credit, Tapper was having none of it, either.
“The book’s about President Trump to a great deal — I mean, there’s a lot — I read the book,” Tapper responded. “There’s a lot in there about your time as a U.S. attorney, about your childhood, but there’s a lot in there about President Trump, especially in terms of leadership. He’s an example of how not to be a leader, in your view. He is the example of somebody who is a bully. And you talk throughout the book about how you hate bullies.”
“I think he is a counterpoint, that’s why he’s in there,” Comey said. “I couldn’t write about ethical leadership and illustrate it with stories without telling stories of someone I think fails to reflect the values of an ethical leader. So sure, he’s 3 of the 14 chapters, it’s an important part of the book. But all I meant is, it’s not a book about Donald Trump and I hope very much it’ll be useful long into the future beyond a Trump presidency.”
As for Comey’s impartiality, Tapper repeatedly tried to get Comey to admit that he preferred Hillary Clinton, noting that one could take away from the book that “the nation would be better off if Hillary were president.
“Because you have called for the nation to respond to the challenge of Trump, in your view, by voting; presumably by voting against what he represents. Is that not a fair interpretation?”
“I actually think of it — maybe it’s the same thing but I think of it in terms of voting for something else, which is the core values of this country, which are more important than any policy disputes,” Comey responded.
Tapper then questioned Comey’s credibility in this matter: “So you have spent decades building a reputation for being evidence-based, for being nonpartisan. The FBI is an organization that is supposed to be evidence-based and nonpartisan,” Tapper said. “Do you worry that by painting this stark portrait of President Trump and suggesting that the American people should vote for something other than the lack of values that he represents in your construct, that you are sullying both the brand of Comey and the brand of the FBI?”
Not to Comey.
“Yeah, I don’t think so,” he said. “And I certainly hope not because I’m not criticizing President Trump because he’s a Republican or because he has a certain view on taxes or immigration or anything else. I’m criticizing him on the grounds of values which is at the center of the FBI and something that should be at the center of all of our evaluations of our leaders. So I get that it’s relevant to politics but I see it as something actually more important than partisan politics.”
There were several other lines of questioning; Tapper pressed Comey for dangling the potential of Russian collusion during earlier interviews without actual evidence and on the infamous text messages between Peter Strzok and Lisa Page. Tapper went on to discuss whether or not Comey’s book tour was hurting his credibility.
Twitter users especially noticed this question, as Twitchy discovered:
He may not have the credibility he desires, but at least he has the money from his book deal.
