Thick plumes of smoke emerged from the wreckage of a Colombian Air Force plane while rescuers worked through the crash site in the southern Amazon area of Colombia. The aircraft crashed shortly after takeoff, leaving at least one person dead and 77 others injured. Forty-seven individuals are still missing.
Defense Minister Pedro Sanchez confirmed the plane was carrying troops and cargo, and said the aircraft was in airworthy condition with a properly qualified crew at the time of the accident. The plane had 11 crew members and 110 National Army soldiers on board.
