Inflation is surging amid the war in the Middle East, with consumer prices now rising at a 3.3% annual rate after a sharp monthly jump — the fastest increase we’ve seen in about four years. At the same time, Americans are growing more uneasy about the economy, with consumer sentiment falling to 47.6, one of the lowest readings on record. It’s creating a split picture — rising prices on one hand, weakening confidence on the other.
