“If I Did It . . . Again!”

That should have been the name of his book. That should have been the name indeed. How anyone who watched a second of that trial ever thought for a moment this man was innocent, I’ll never know or fathom.

In 2006, homicidal psychopath O.J. Simpson sat down with television cameras to discuss the murders of his ex-wife, Nicole Brown Simpson, and her friend, Ronald Goldman. The disgraced NFL athlete was, of course, famously found “not guilty” of the two murders. But Simpson had some thoughts on what would have happened if, you know, he had committed the double homicide in 1994, Bravo TV notes.

That’s just what Simpson discussed in his 2006 TV interview, which was timed to the ill-fated release of his book, If I Did It. It should have been called If I Did It Again! To some, it seems like a bizarre prospect for Simpson to speculate on what truly happened to the victims on that fateful night in Brentwood. (Especially since many aren’t convinced that the former football player didn’t “do it.”) The book was later retitled If I Did It: Confessions of the Killer. The TV special was canceled and, reportedly, the interview tapes were lost — until now.

Fox will air a special containing footage of O.J. Simpson’s previously unseen interview with publisher Judith Regan, in which the disgraced football star hypothesizes about the murders of Nicole Brown Simpson and Ron Goldman.

“O.J. Simpson: The Lost Confession?” is set to air March 11 at 8 p.m. on the broadcast network. Hosted by Soledad O’Brien, the special will feature footage from Simpson’s 2006 interview with Regan, who was fired from her role at Rupert Murdoch’s HarperCollins after Regan interviewed Simpson and agreed to publish a book, “If I Did It,” based on the interview, in which the former Buffalo Bills running back hypothesized about how he could have killed Brown Simpson and Goldman, whose murders he had been acquitted of in 1994. HarperCollins ultimately did not publish the book. Corporate sibling Fox Broadcasting shelved a special based on the interview after several affiliates told the network they would refuse to air it.
